Abstract
As digital television (DTV) is able to receive superior images, audio quality, and better reception than analog, the digital set top box (STB), which is the standard receiver used by digital TV, has become exciting for both consumers and vendors. Asia/Pacific' s digital STB market is expected to grow quickly due to strong market demand from consumers and helpful initiatives from the region' s governments.
In-Stat' s "In-Sights: Digital Set Top Boxes Market in Asia/Pacific" illustrates the region' s current market situations, the standards and middleware used in Asia/Pacific, and also includes results from a customer' s perception survey.
In-Stat' s "2006 Digital STB Survey" involved a total of 1,210 respondents from Australia, China, India, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. Respondent' s intention to get STBs, and types of STBs owned at home, major influencers in buying digital STB, TV recording habit, and willingness to pay were all covered in the survey.
In-Stat estimates that by 2011, the total annual shipments of all kinds of STB products will be about 87 million units. Developed markets such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, and maybe Hong Kong and Taiwan will see boxes with built-in PVRs driving the market.
