Abstract

Crafting essential objects from clay is almost as old as humanity. Today's ceramics continue that story-new materials, products and processes figure prominently in many advanced technologies. From industrial tools to nanotechnology and biomaterials, ceramics are the cutting edge.

These new compositions are the key to the improved and more efficient state-of-the-art products in many fields: automotive, electronics and optics, superconductors, fuel cells, membranes and filters, piezoelectrics, heat exchangers, coatings, wear parts, armor and special reinforcements.

Ceramics is an industry that is far from aged. Instead this technology is vigorous and growing-advanced ceramics are meeting the rigorous demands of a high technology 21st century.
